The cause of the accident is still unclear. A small plane spins and then crashes over the Bavarian Forest. Any help comes too late for the two occupants. Numerous police and rescue services are on site.
Two people died when a small plane crashed in the Bavarian Forest. According to initial information, the two males are the occupants of the aircraft, said a spokeswoman for the police headquarters in Lower Bavaria. The police have not yet been able to provide any further information on the dead or the causes of the crash. The flight route is also determined accordingly.
According to the police, the crash site of the single-engine machine is about 500 meters from the national park center near Neuschönau in the Bavarian Forest. Debris from the plane was spread over a large area around the crash site, which was only a few kilometers from the border with the Czech Republic.
At around 9 a.m., witnesses observed a circling aircraft, which is said to have disappeared a short time later in a forest near the national park center. Numerous forces from the police, rescue services, fire brigades and local mountain rescue service rushed to the crash site. A helicopter was also used.
The criminal police in Passau, together with the Federal Office for Flight Investigation, have started investigations. The crash site is therefore in the area of the animal outdoor area at the National Park Center Lusen. The outdoor area was initially closed due to the crash, and all guided tours were cancelled.
According to initial police findings, no animals or enclosures were harmed by the crash. No animals escaped either. According to the National Park Center, visitors can see lynx, wolves, bears and other wild animals in the approximately 200-hectare outdoor area.
