After the uprising against the Kremlin, the Wagner mercenaries are supposed to hand over their military equipment to the regular Russian army. According to the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, preparations are underway.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the “heavy” military equipment of the Wagner mercenary unit will be handed over to the Russian army. “Preparations are underway to hand over Wagner’s heavy military equipment to the active units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,” the ministry said in a statement.
The Wagner mercenaries had started an uprising against the military leadership in Moscow at the weekend, but it was broken off after around 24 hours. The mercenaries, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, invaded Russia from Ukraine and initially took control of the army’s military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don. Then they advanced towards Moscow with heavy equipment, including tanks and armored vehicles.
Prigozhin had declared the removal of the military leadership in Moscow as a goal. After mediation by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Prigozhin broke off the uprising after around 24 hours on Saturday evening. According to the Kremlin, he is now to go into exile in Belarus.
