Klopp advisor Kosicke: “The individual no longer seems ready to work for the group”

WELT: Is that impression misleading or would you also say that these are very turbulent times in German football?

Marc Kosicke: Apparently yes. If you look at the past six months and bear in mind that Bayern are parting ways with Julian Nagelsmann, Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic are out, Thomas Tuchel is hired and now Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are more in responsibility, quite a lot has happened at Bayern alone. Furthermore, the German national team is suffering from an identity and results crisis. We need a change of mood, especially with regard to the upcoming euro in our own country.

WELT: The U21s also disappointed at the European Championships and were eliminated in the preliminary round. Does German football have a fundamental problem?

Kosicke: I am afraid that our society is moving away from the meritocracy and that the focus is on individual well-being.
