Ukraine war: Pistorius is now putting pressure on Poland
EThere are trips abroad that Boris Pistorius (SPD) can take very relaxed. Last week, the German defense minister flew to his counterpart Lloyd Austin in the United States. There was a reception with military honours, praise for Germany’s engagement in Ukraine and invocation of the “very close relationship”.
And then there are trips to Poland. Pistorius was also given military honors during his visit to Zamosc in south-eastern Poland this Monday. But the content is different, more difficult, more confrontational. Especially this year, as parliamentary elections are due in the neighboring country in the fall and the current governing party PiS is campaigning for votes with anti-German resentment, the meetings with Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak are a particular challenge.
