WhatsApp is currently working on a feature to make the messaging app even more secure – double verification. You know how you need to input a six-digit security code to verify you’re… you? Well, you might need to do that again, in the not-so-distant future.

Twice the WhatsApp security

Stolen WhatsApp accounts are a real problem for some naive users. Stories of users falling for phishing or giving away their security codes must have caught the WhatsApp dev team’s attention. So they’re adding a second verification code requirement for users attempting to register an existing account on a new device. This is according to the folks at WABetaInfo, who are usually right about these sorts of things. It’s right in the name.

After the first successful attempt to login to your WhatsApp account on a different device, you’ll receive another verification code from WhatsApp. Just to be sure. At least, that’s the idea. The feature is still in development but that’s what WABetaInfo says beta testers can look forward to when the feature is eventually released to them.

In a surprise turn of events, WhatsApp will actually be the first messaging app to introduce this feature to users. Well, provided the feature is released in the near future, before other apps have the chance to add something similar.

If this isn’t enough to make your WhatsApp account secure from the biggest liability (yourself), then maybe it’s better if you stick to email? If that doesn’t work out, you could always go back to writing things down and sending them via mail? Nah, that’ll never catch on.
