Xiaomi 13 Ultra released! Its Quad-camera System May Take Smartphone Photography To The Next Level
Xiaomi has finally completed its latest flagship lineup (check out our MWC coverage on the other Xiaomi 13 devices) with the launch of the highly-anticipated Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The top-of-the-line device boasts several upgrades over last year’s Xiaomi 12S Ultra (we also covered the launch of the Xiaomi 12T series in October last year), including an improved quad-camera system, a brighter display, a refreshed design, and better performance. From the spec sheet, we can see that the new Xiaomi flagship is the nemesis of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (except for the 200 MP shooting mode and some differences including charging speed) which we covered the launch in February in San Francisco.
This new Ultra smartphone features a versatile quad-camera system, which includes a 50MP Sony IMX989 1-inch main camera with a variable aperture, two 50MP IMX858 telephoto cameras with OIS and 5X and 3.2X optical zooms, and a 50MP IMX858 ultra-wide camera with autofocus. The camera system offers support for two photographic styles developed in partnership with Leica, multiple Leica filters, and 4K 60fps video capture support with Dolby Vision. Additionally, the device features a 32MP selfie camera with dynamic framing and HDR support.
The glorious 6.73-inch WQHD+ AMOLED display boasts a peak brightness of 2600 nits, making it the brightest display on a smartphone so far. It offers 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate support, up to 240Hz touch sampling rate, and Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG support. The display is also calibrated according to the new CIE 2015 calorimetry, ensuring consistent color reproduction across all recently launched Xiaomi devices.
The flagship is powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is paired with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of fast UFS 4.0 storage. The device also features Xiaomi’s new in-house Loop LiquidCool technology, which helps to keep temperatures in check during demanding tasks such as playing games and capturing 4K videos at 60fps.
Other noteworthy features include a 5000mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless fast charging support, dual speakers, Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the display, and an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. The device runs on MIUI 14 based on Android 13.
Price and Availability
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is now available for pre-order in China (the company has not disclosed any information regarding its international release yet) in three trendy colors: Black, White, and Olive Green. It offers three RAM/storage options with the following price points:
- 12GB + 256GB: RMB 5,999 (~$870)
- 16GB + 512GB: RMB 6,499 (~$945)
- 16GB + 1TB: RMB 7,299 (~$1,060)
Overall, the new Xiaomi phone is undoubtedly one of the best ones to hit the market this year, with its versatile camera system, bright display, and top-notch performance. We will review both the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra and publish their respective Ubergizmo’s CAMERA HW score, so, stay tuned!
